Genetic Geneaologist

There is a great blog by Blaine Bettinger called The Genetic Geneaologist where can learn more about how DNA and paper records combine to bring us all more information on family histories, test, and discover new links. He also has a great free book called “I Have The Results of My Genetic Genealogy Test, Now What?” that you can download from his site.

Sir, i have a paper trail that leads back to rothsay on the isle of bute. the paper research indicates a connection with the black taylor of the lochabar axe. i wanted to join the dna testing sysytem at clan cameron but they indicate that i should join one at ftdna, i assume this has a place for taylors’ to participate. i don’t know how to proceed. Can you direct me in this?

How exciting! We would love to have information about the Black Taylor of the Lochaber Axe!! As far as we are concerned, Taylors are Camerons, especially your line. So after you sign up for the DNA test, on the left hand side of the “My FTDNA Home” page in the grey area is a button that says “Join Projects” if you click this and then scroll down in the middle of the page until you see the “search by surname” box..type in Cameron.., click on “Cameron” when the list comes up, then at the bottom right corner of the screen is a “join” button. That will link all of your data to the Clan Project.
You can join multiple groups, including Taylor, Scottish DNA, and any others you would like.
